Swami Bholananda Giriji Maharaj, a renowned Sanyasi of his time is not only worshipped and respected by the people of Bengal but is also respected by religious minded men all over India. After self-realisation and attaining the highest spriritual enlightenment in his early life, he settled himself at Laltarabagh, Hardwan on the bank of the holy Ganges and devoted the rest of his noble and grand life to the cause of promoting the religious life of all persons. He took spiritual care to maintain the purity and the devotional life of Sanyasis of ten denominations of Jagatgury Sankaracharya and to improve religious life of the householders by his teachings and by bringing them into contact of with the Sanyasis. For the purpose of his work, he founded the Sri Sri Bholananda Sanyas Ashram, two dharmashalas, and one Sanskrit Pathshala at Hardwar. He also established several Ashrams in Barishal, Dacca, Sitakund, Tungeshwar, Syllhet in Bangladesh, West Bengal, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab for the spritual upliftment of the people of those place. Swami Bholananda Giri Maharaj departed his life on 8th day of May 1929. Thereafter Swami Mahadevananda Giri Maharaj become the first President of Sri Sri Bholananda Sanyas Ashram, Haridwar at the relevant time Swami Jyotirmoyananda Giri, one of the desciple of Swami Mahadevananda Giri Maharaj aquired some properties at Barrackpore, Puri and Benaras and he also established an Ashram at Monirampur, Barrackpore, West Bengal in the name of Sree Guru Bholananda Ashram.
